Canoe Trip Information
When: Friday May 13- Sunday May 15
Time: – Departure time TBD – return Sunday approximately 2 p.m.
Where: Lake James State Park
The troop will not be stopping for dinner, so please eat before arriving at the church.
As of today, forecast calls for light rain for the weekend. Be prepared with appropriate clothing.
We wear Class A for travel and Class B for canoeing.
Scout 10 Basic Essentials are required on all outdoor scout events (Handbook
pg. 268), except, we will be in bear country, so don’t carry snacks in your
personal gear this trip; pack all food and mess kits separately. All food,
drinks, soap, scented toiletries, coolers, etc. must be stored inside one food
locker.
Pack light. Don’t overpack. Bring quick drying clothes, socks and shoes (no cotton this trip), light and
medium base layers (pants and tops), jacket and 30° sleeping bag and sleep
clothes.
We will have troop tents. Hammocks are allowed on this trip.
Optional equipment: drybags, water shoes, small waterproof battery-operated
lantern, paddling gloves, swim shorts. Bring fishing gear if you have it and
want to fish.
Lake James is a 6,800-acre reservoir with depths up to 120
feet. Largemouth and White Bass are favorite target species of sporting
anglers, while Walleye and Crappie are the focus of those hoping for fish
dinner. Large pike, muskie, catfish and stripers are also in the lake.
