Fundraising Opportunity:

Parents,

Our troop will be kicking off a new short-term fundraiser on Monday, March 8th. ”Camp cards” is a new fundraiser organized by the Meck County Council to help scouts raise funds for summer camp. Of course, even if your child is not going to camp, any profits he obtains go directly into his scout account. Here’s how is works: Scouts are issued plastic cards that have various vendor coupons and offerings (Harris Teeter, Jiffy Lube, Coca-Cola, etc) on them. Each card is sold for $5, the scout will receive $2.50 into his account. That’s a 50% profit for each sold!

Selling terms are March 8th thru April 19th. The council is very adamant about the troop returning all monies or unused tickets in to them by a certain date. We do not have the leniency to sell these for more than the allotted timeframe. Because of this we must insist that scout families be held responsible for payment of any camp cards in their possession after April 19th. Unsold cards may be returned prior to that time as well. Payments can be made by cash or check made out to BSA Troop 502.

If you have any questions, please e-mail Cindy Schnall at cyn93063@aol.com or 704-236-2684.

High Adventure Summer 2011 (Florida Seabase)

We will be having a meeting TONIGHT at 7:45pm with the parents only concerning Florida Seabase for the Summer of 2011. If you cannot be there please let Joe Lane know by email (jlane2005@earthlink.net). We will be finalizing the dates of the trip, discussing when the $100 deposit is due per person, and estimating the final costs. The following parents will need to be attendance:

It is with a heavy heart that we let you know that earlier today Max James (Troop 502’s first Chartered Organizational Representative and Chris Hatcher’s grandfather) passed away in Texas where he was visiting his son. Max had been involved in Scouting most of his life and was a recipient of Scouting’s Silver Beaver Award.

From the very beginning of Troop 502, Max was a great supporter and mentored many of our early Eagle Scouts through merit badge classes and general encouragement. Max helped Troop 502 develop a sense of both discipline and swagger that is still prominent in the Troop today. We will miss Max and are pleased that Troop 502 is a part of his Scouting legacy.

From what we know, Max will be laid to rest in Ohio. We will let you know if we get any details around memorials or flowers.

Everyone -

We wanted to send you an update on the Merit Badge College. We are having a very difficult time finding a venue that can accommodate us until AFTER March. We are deciding on which date to hold the MBC to best accomodate the largest # of boys who want to attend. We will send out a new email in the next week or so letting you know the new date. We will NOT be holding the MBC on Feb. 20th as we had originally hoped.

We realize that there will be adjustments to make in the registrations for boys who can no longer attend due to the change in date and for additional boys who were originally unable to attend. Refunds will be provided for anyone who has previously paid but who will no longer be able to attend.

Details will be forthcoming.

Thank you all for your patience as we work through this. Next year we will know to schedule a make-up date at the beginning of the process!

Thanks-

Michelle Jones
