For those who took Community Service books, I hope you have had great success thus far! As a reminder, books will also be available for pick-up at the August 16th meeting whether you need more or are picking up for the first time. Also, money collected thus far may be turned in that night as well, you do not have to wait until September 20th to turn in funds. Please remember that we have no meeting on the 23rd, so if you need books please make every effort to pick them up this Monday night.

An extra selling feature of the books are the on-line coupons. Every book has a number code on the back cover. Tell your customers to log on to www.communityservicebook.com and enter that number code. They can they access on-line coupons through the year as well.

On Monday night, August 9th, we will be kicking off our Community Service book fundraiser. In years past, we have sold Citipass, but I have been informed by them that the “big dogs” like Bi-Lo and Home Depot have not renewed. Hence, we are trying to give this book a try.

I will hand out an informational sheet Monday, but just wanted to give you some highlights prior to that. Books are $20 each, with a flat $10 profit for each book sold. For every 5 books your scout sells, he receives the sixth one sold at 100% profit! For example, if he sells 6 books, he will receive $50 for the first 5 and then $20 for the sixth. Seventy dollars for selling 6 books is a pretty good deal! Sell 12 books, that’s $140 profit, and so on..

This fundraiser is open to ALL scouts, not just the Seabase crew. Please remember that the first obligation with your proceeds is dues payment ($225 due by December 31st), after that is fulfilled, then the money will be applied to summer camp, or to the high adventure trip.

Please take this opportunity to encourage your scout to give this fundraiser his best effort. If you have any questions, please call Cindy Schnall at 704-236-2684. Thanks!!

Friday, June 11th, 2010:

We are trying to leave a little earlier than normal to get to our campsite before the offices shut down for the day. If this is a problem, please contact the Scoutmaster as soon as possible.

Arrival at Church: 4:00pm
Departure from Church: 4:30 or as soon as everyone has arrived
Dinner: We will be stopping on the way up to eat, please bring money.

Saturday, June 12th:

After breakfast at our campsite, we will be heading to the outfitters to receive our bikes and instructions for riding the VA Creeper Trail. Our rental includes the bikes, helmets, and water bottles. However, if you prefer to wear your own helmet please bring it along. You also need something that can fit on your back or tied to your bike to hold your lunch, more water, and personal effects for that afternoon. Rain Gear is a good suggestion as well. Everyone will need to wear closed toed shoes. Personal First Aid kits is also a good idea. Be advised there are several stores along the way down the trail that you could stop and buy food or drinks at. Also, once at the bottom there are ice cream stores as well. A little spending money might come in handy.

Sunday, June 13th:

We will be stopping on the way to eat so please bring some money for this. We will call once we are own our way to let the parents know what time to expect us back at church.

Equipment Needs:

*Personal Camping Gear
*Rain Gear
*Mess Kits
*Water bottles or camel backs
*Personal First Aid Kits
*Bike Helmet (optional)
*Biking gloves (optional)
*Class “B” for travel on Friday and Sunday.
*Anyone under the rank of 1st Class will use Troops tents.
*Swim Trunks (we might get wet at some point on Saturday when we return to the campsite)
*Campsite is equipped with showers in case you want to bring that stuff along.
*Fishing is allowed on the banks of the New River, anyone over 16 would need a license in order to fish.
* $10 payable to Mrs. Miller for your food on Saturday (breakfast, lunch, and dinner, plus dessert).

Scouts/Adults signed up to go:
