Congaree National Park Trip Feb 21-23 details

What: Troop 502 will be camping, hiking, orienteering and cooking. This is a fun and skills building weekend.

When: February 21-23  Leave: Friday 21 at 5pm. Return: Sunday 23, about 12-1pm. Scouts will call or text with exact ETA.

Where: Driving personal vehicles to Congaree National Park, Congaree, SC.

Weather: mid 60s daytime; mid 40s at night. Cloudy. Light wind and rain possible.

Gear: We will be hiking in wet areas and it might be raining. Review the 502 gear list. Be prepared, bring mess kit, weather appropriate clothing and extra pair of shoes or boots, head lamp, etc.

Meals: $28 per scout. No meals on the road. Several scouts are working on cooking for rank advancement and for the cooking merit badge. SEE BELOW INSTRUCTIONS.

 

Scouts who are cooking must prepare full meals with a main dish, a couple sides and dessert for 7 scouts.

  • review and fulfill the USDA Choose My Place guidelines. https://www.choosemyplate.gov
  • choose and bring the recipes, shopping list, cooking utensil list, and pricing.
  • Scouts must personally go to the store and buy the food and bring receipts. Budget is $30 per breakfast, $40 for lunch and $45 per dinner.

 

BONUS If cooking method is Dutch oven, kabob skewers or foil wrap

Januda: Friday Dinner: Chicken Fajita Dinner

Harrison: Saturday breakfast: Ham and Egg meal

Miles: Saturday lunch: Philly Cheesesteak packable meal (2 meal servings should be beef alternative)

Yasindu: Saturday dinner: Chicken Curry rice meal

Jack: Sunday Breakfast: Crepes
