Troop Meetings Resume This Monday Night!

Everyone:

I hope you have enjoyed your Summer vacations and time off from Troop 502. Beginning this coming Monday night, August 2nd, the Troop will be back on regular schedule at 7pm. Class “B” uniforms are still in effect at this time.

The Troop has just returned from a great week at Summer Camp. We had 24 scouts attend this week and tried to complete 107 total merit badges. In the end, the Troop was able to walk away with 90 complete merit badges and only 17 partials. Congrats for all the hard work! A special thank you to the adults that spent a week with these Scouts helping them out. August Court of Honor should be a long one.

Tonight, July 27th at Township Grille in Matthews the Seabase Crews of 2011 will be holding a fund raiser to help offset their costs. Please bring your family, friends, co-workers, etc out tonight to have dinner and let these guys be your waiters, servers, and bus boys for the evening. The crews will earn a % of the total bill plus all tips to go towards their trip. Event will run from 5pm – 9pm TONIGHT!!

Few things everyone should be aware of:

  • Community Books will be passed out Monday night, August 2nd, to begin our fundraising efforts again for the year. Please see Cindy Schnall for more information.
  • Calendar has been updated through December to include meetings, campouts, service projects, etc. Please pay close attention to the final days to register for trips. Online registration for trips should be available shortly. Once cut-off dates have passed, no one will be allowed to attend. Remember food money is due the Monday night prior to the campouts. Other events may be added as go or changed if necessary.
  • Merit Badges (outside of Summer Camp). Please refer to the Troop handbook concerning how to earn merit badges.  This can be found on pages 33 and 34. If you plan to work on merit badges on your own the following must take place in order for them to be approved:
    • Obtain a blue card from the Advancement Chair or Scoutmaster
    • Get the name of an “APPROVED and REGISTERED” merit badge counselor from the Adv. Chair or Scoutmaster. Registered means with the council office, taken youth protection, filled out the proper paperwork for that badge, and have knowledge of the badge being taught.
    • Ask another Scout(s) to work on this badge with you. Make no sense in doing it alone when others could benefit as well.
    • Once completed, the Merit Badge counselor will sign off the blue card as completed or partial.
  • The Troop offers several Merit badges thru the year especially in the fall and winter months. Family Life, Communications, Personal Management to name a few. Plus the Troop also attends colleges at Camp Barnhardt starting in October as well.

We look forward to seeing all you back on Monday night, August 2nd. Please try to be on time.

Thanks

Troop Leadership
